Road markings.

I have noticed of late around Co Cork that some road markings have been deleted. These include the yellow boxes on the hard shoulder after and before some junctions and those two arrows denoting both straight on and right turn from the same lane.

Is this to bring them in line for some national standard perhaps?

This seems to have been done nationwide, a lot of similar work done on the N21.

Another thing I've noticed is standardisation of climbing lanes, so that traffic enters on the left rather than forcing slow drivers to pull into the climbing lane, and the addition of ghost islands at either end of the climbing lan.e

That climbing lane modification is a grear job.. At least you have an overtaking lane rather than a slow lane... in regards to line marking, a company pulled up at a local school and painted one of the slow down signs on the tar and reinforced 3 single lines of hatch marking on the carriage was both east and west. Left the other 9 lines and the school ahead signs that are fair worn.... it looks like someone did half a job and got bored, more than likely due to budgeting issues..

Yellow boxes either side junctions and lane arrows to right where there is no room to left are no longer used.

I just wish that local authorities would reline their regional roads more often. So many times the white lines are so worn down as to be basically non-existent.

also, solid white lines may be inappropriate in cases where it may be dangerous to overtake approaching a bend but perfectly safe pulling away from a bend. Road markings are very arbitrary in this Country

Never mind road, towns need it too. Double yellows that are faded away and white lines... i dont agree with using Northern companies for lining, cats eyes or signage... Come down on a monday with there bowser of diesel and northern reg'd vans, spend a week in a hotel or b and b and go home fridays.. Plenty companies down here that could expand, take lads off the dole, pay prsi, exise duty on diesel, road tax at least money is waiting in the localities
