I'm currently in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance but I recently fractured my ankle and I was wondering is it possible to get your payment changed so it go's into my bank account instead of having to go to the post office to collect. I was also wondering would this injury mean I have to sign off while I recover.

Unfortunately for you, JA can only be collected from your nominated post office. DSP stopped paying it directly into bank accounts some years ago as a fraud prevention measure.

    Claiming JA means that you're:
    • Unemployed (fully unemployed or unemployed for at least 4 days out of 7)
    • Capable of work
    • Available for work
    • Genuinely seeking work
In your situation, it seem likely that you may not meet all 4 conditions.

So you probably should sign off. However, the problem is that if you sign off JA, then you may not be eligible for any other SW payment. (Although you might be able to claim Supplementary Welfare Allowance.)

You can apply for illness benefit if you have enough contributions. If not then apply for supplementary welfare allowance.
