how do you tell which class you are in on the timetable there are two rooms for each hour time slot

If the group codes end like '_A' and '_B' etc, then this just means your class is being split between rooms (typically done in science labs due to limited space), usually your lecturer will tell you the splits either via email or in the first lecture. You could also email your course leader to clear it up too.
