Hi guys, were thinking about an open plan kitchen e extension, our house is a 3 bed semi detached, our problem is coming up with ideas because of our back garden is sloping downwards, it's not very steep, but a builder has suggested a split level extension, as in maybe two steps down into the extension, any suggestions or home photos would be so helpful.

We had that situation, and our neighbours. They put in two steps, we went out straight then put in decking and steps. Really a matter of choice. I suggest though that you are more likely to be to and fro over the kitchen and less often going out onto the garden. Also you are less likely to be carrying dishes of food and hot things going outside! The steps going down to the garden give us a nice view of the garden and are often used as casual seating.

Hi we were going to put the lower level as our tv room with large sliding porch doors but we're south facing so would be hard to see the tv with the sun, couldn't put blinds on the sliding porch, so confused 😖

If it's sloping downwards can you not just fill it with hardcore/gravel/whatever to bring it up to ground level?

(much like if it was sloping upwards you'd just excavate until it's ground level?)

I know what you mean, it's just that we're in a small housing estate so at the bottom of back garden is our neighbours, so going straight out with the extension there will be no privacy as with us been high up and building straight out with an extension well be nearly looking into the neighbours house ðŸ˜

Well now, that two things that are different. It was proposed as an extended kitchen, not a tv room - yes putting a tv room in a sunroom type extension would be a bad idea. Also the overlook business, in that case, yes definitely drop it.
