    Hi,

Couldn't find any answer through searching the site so here we go...

When a photographer says 'i am fully registered and insured', what does he/she mean (i understand the insurance part so no need for an answer!:D)?

By saying registered, does he mean he/she registered with revenue/VAT/business name etc.!? What exactly needs to be done to setup your business as a freelance photographer?

    Thank you

You'll need to ask that particular photographer what he means. It can mean different things to different photographers. You have highlighted some of the possible meanings.

You don't need to register for VAT unless you trade over (I think) 64k per annum. You don't need to register a business name, unless you want to protect the name from others using it. You don't specifically need to register with the Revenue, per se, as long as you pay your taxes properly, and there are different ways of doing that (talk to a qualified accountant for advice).

To setup your business - take photos, charge customers, supply product, pay your taxes and have insurance. Everything else is additional, and will vary from photographer to photographer.
