Irish Whiskey on the rise...

I read an interesting magazine article about Irish whiskey, and I thought I'd include some tidbits from it as I found the sheer numbers surprising... if you'd asked me for the value of Irish whiskey sales in the US I would have been out by a factor of 10!

So feel free to discuss... is this good, bad, what concerns are there for the future...

    * Irish whiskey is the world’s fastest growing spirit category with sales having increased by 11.2% in 2016 (and 17.6% in the US).

    * The value of Irish whiskey sales per annum in the US is $1 billion (although that translate as half that in terms of export value to Ireland)

    * Jameson has over 80% of the Irish whiskey market in the US

    * Irish whiskey companies are planning $1 billion euro worth of investments in the next 10 years

    * Bacardi have taken a minority stake in Teelings Irish Whiskey in exchange for distributing the brand in 'select' US states

    * Irish whiskey sales are still waay behind Scotch whisky sales, something like 9-10 million cases for Irish versus 90 million for Scotch

Some of the above info is also noted here:
