    Hey guys,

the battery in my car has completely died and car is just sitting outside the house. It needs replacing as jump start didnt work!

I tried so many mechanics and they have no interest in calling out, so I'm looking into the AA

Would I be able to become a member and use the service right away? Or would I have to wait a certain time?

    Thanks!

There is a waiting period. I am not sure what it is off the top of my head.

What you are looking to do is the same as having an accident with no insurance, then calling up a company and asking for a policy and for them to sort your claim.

    Edit - its two days.

Check your insurance. You may have breakdown assist if you are fully comp.

Any neighbours or friends with jump leads that can help you?

Would a taxi trip to a motor factors to buy a new replacement battery not be the cheapest route if you live within 10 miles or so of one? Sounds like you need to buy a new battery either way whether you go AA or not.

If you left jump leads connected from another idling car for a half hour, then try starting, it might work better.

Either way, a good set is needed, and well connected.

New battery needed anyway, if the old one is completely discharged.

    Just buy a new battery.

Winter is coming, the cold mornings will put an end to any battery that is already weak.

Once they have been fully discharged, they are ruined anyway.

how mechanically experienced are you? Are you sure it's just the battery and not a dodgy alternator that's killing the battery?

What garage do you normally use for your services? They surely would do a call out for you?

At the same time surely there is someone that could assist with jump leads?

They are getting more more miserable. Broke down a long time ago with AA Insurance called them up and asked about recovery and was told it was a 24 hour wait. A friends mother had broken down a few years previously and got immediate cover from a person in a mall.

Got a flyer off them saying that they'd match any quote. Called them and they didn't include recovery so would have to buy their recovery plan.granted superior cover, which made their quote way more expensive.

his problem is noone will call out to him, so I think that answers your question

Would using something like this be worth a try. For the sake of €15 might get the car moving so he can get to a place to replace the battery.

Do you know someone who is an AA member already, have them ring up and say they are a passenger, their membership will cover your car too if they are a passenger.
Did this for the wife's car when her battery died one winters morning.
