    Lo Folks.

HP Notebook, 18 months old, light useage. Got it for an elderly neighbour to use. Recently some specific keys do not work.... 6 and 4 on the number pad, all the numbers on the top row and the up and down arrows on the main board. Function keys work. No damage or spillages.

Troubleshooted using HP and Google, took off and reinstalled the keyboard driver several times with no joy.

Have no separate keyboard to connect and try that.

Any ideas before a trip to town?

    Mucho Gracias

    TT

Turn on the on screen keyboard and see if they work from there. If they don't then at least you know it's not a hardware issue.

Yeah, meant to say that On Screen keyboard works fine.

Very likely a faulty keyboard.Maybe try reseating the keyboard zif cable.Failing that a new keyboard would be reasonable enough from eBay/Ali express.Hp charge a fortune for them.

Also check the machine warranty on the hp site, higher end machines often have a 3 year warranty.

    Thanks for that Magentis,

Seems a straightforward job to check/replace the cable and keyboard. I will check the warranty too.

    No bother.
Have a look on YouTube for a teardown of your specific machine these can be helpful.Hp laptops usually have 3 screws for the keyboard, denoted by a little keyboard picture on the chassis next to them. The screws are usually retained by the chassis.

From that link provided, it looks like there are a lot of screws (12+) to remove and you'll probably need a pry tool of some sort as well. What is the model of the notebook?

    It's a HP15-AF103NA.
