Hi all and hopefully in the right place for any help any of you that could help me with.

I have 2 cats that need to be put into a cattery for approximately a year.

We are moving as house we were renting is being sold.

We have a place sorted but can't have pets and hope to have our own house bought in a year or so.

Is there anywhere that does long term and of course isn't going to cost us a mortgage to house them.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I think it's really unfair to the cats to put them in a cattery for a full year. Have you no family that could take them for the year? To be honest if it were me I'd be passing on any house that didn't allow pets and keep looking for somewhere else.

Its more about saving to get a mortgage also as renting isn't suiting and never will. Its fourth property in 5 years.

We have been extremely unlucky and we took the cats in to save them they are brother/sister and hopefully will have our own place where they will be for the rest of their time. I understand its not ideal but they are funny with the different personalities and of course there is a bond with the daughter also.

We would love to know someone that could take but its just not an option as small family and most have dogs or expecting.

    Thanks for the reply.

I think you should be looking to rehome these cats.

Best would be to find a private.
A friend of mine did the same.
She found a person, who has cats already, available to look after her cat long term.
She is paying a monthly fee, food, vet and going to visit the cat from time to time.
Cat settle in the house and is happy.
Of course it had been stresfull and maybe will be again when he will be moved again...
(but also very stressful for the human...)
Hard time with housing situation :(
    good luck!

    Hi jsabina.

Any tips or places to look out for such.

We have moved 3 times with them and they were fine, they don't really go out much and when they do they stay very close.

I could try to ask my friend for this person.. although she already have the three cats and dogs so I am not sure if she would be available..

You didn't say where you are based. I know all paws in Naul will do long term stays

I had a message from another boardsie who may be able to take both in.

All going well and am very grateful for their offer.

Just need to get in touch to sort details etc.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but a similar problem has arisen for us with our two cats - I have been seconded to London with 2 weeks notice and we are both going to move over. The apartment in London is covered but won't allow cats. The contract is minimum 6 months but could last up to a year. We have a brother and sister (mainecoon kittens - maybe 6 months old by now).

Doing some reading around, it appears the best options are to give up the cats to a loving home temporarily and offer to cover food, vet, litter etc. plus a bit extra (thinking €250 - €400 per month) but just wondering if anyone has any sources on Facebook or anywhere of people who may be willing to assist. I have family here but unfortunately cannot get the cats to be taken. The main things are that they are not separated and stay together as well as getting appropriately cared for.

Hoping you find somewhere. Can you not find a home that will take
pets? So upsetting for you and such lovely cats

It may be a case of having to return them to the breeder who I assume will look to sell them on again. Once they’re together it would reduce the stress for them as I’d hate to see them separated but still looking for a solution that isn’t giving them up.

I think we are willing to pay enough money for someone to take them and look after them (it’s approximately €80 for the litter and food each month and we would give €250 - €400), it’s more that we don’t know where to look for people that might take them.

Be sure to get them neutered if not already done, being pedigrees I'd be worried about someone trying to make a quick buck out of them. Microchipped and registered to you also in case they ever went missing.

Try putting on ad on donedeal but be sure to homecheck, I'd leave the exact price your willing to pay out in case it attracts the wrong type of person. You should probably give the breeder a heads up now to give them warning just in case you do have to fall back on returning them to them.

I understand, and did ask my family but they say no.. I already have three cats and a dog and health not good. Please God it works out ; all I can do is pray.. And I will..

Offering money above costs rings alarm bells..

Rings alarm bells for who? Should we just make sure that the costs of food and litter are covered and vet, if required (i.e. to ensure only genuine people take them)?

From our perspective the extra money is an incentive for someone to take them!

A woman who works with my girlfriend said she would happily take them but needs to talk to her husband tonight as they have cats already!

I hear you but... as the other person says, best not give the amount until you have done the homecheck and are happy

so agree with your first para..

    Hoping the enquiry goes well
