Recently i've stopped wearing a golf glove and i'm playing the best golf i've ever played, so other than when its raining what big use does it serve?

As you mention, outside of rain, the primary reason that people need to wear a glove is sweaty hands.

For most people though, I would think, it started out primarily as a tradition thing, and ends up just as a habit, so it feels normal to wear one.

I wear one for all long shots, and take it off for the "touch" golf around & on the greens
