    Hi,

I have just bought a van and plan to convert, pay VRT and register as camper.

The rules for conversion according to the RSA are fairly simple:
    http://www.rsa.ie/Documents/Vehicle%20Testing/Motor%20Caravan%20Testing/FAQ%20-%20motor%20caravan%20testing.pdf

My thoughts are to convert just enough to register (no back windows, wiring etc).

    My question is:

If I keep the conversion as simple as possible will this result in a lower valuation for VRT?

My hope is it will. Once registered as a camper I can add to it as I can afford it.

Any experiences with doing similar greatly appreciated.

Any info on the valuation process greatly appreciated. Is it a science or a black art?

    thanks
    PJ

It's a black art for sure.
Trick is to do just enough to qualify, the lower the value THEY put on the finished product the lower the VRT, it's 13.5% of what THEY say it's worth.
Once it's registered as a motor caravan and VRT'd you can then add the finishing touches.

You might have to put in back windows:
"It would be expected that the living accommodation space in the rear compartment would have side windows"
