NCT fail for stretched tyres?

I failed on bushings and headline alignment too, which was fine, but I was a bit surprised to learn my 9.5" rim with 255 width tyres on it is deemed "unfit for purpose" by the NCT. From reading online this seems discretionary to the tester's whims. I have good tyres on it, they don't rub, everything is fine and I hadn't even considered these stretched. I've done proper stretched before, but this is a stock tyre size on a 9.5" wheel FFS! BMW supply the 19" wheels in 10" rear format!

Anyone experience this? Should I just put it in for a retest and chance them as is? I don't want to put wider tyres on it as they might then rub the arches and also they have to be within 3% of the front tyre diameter lest traction control go haywire, not that the NCT seems to care.

    Car is a 2006 335d.

Put some second hand plastic ditch finders on for the test.
    And swap back after

4 16" Steelies with the cheapest Chinese tyres you can find is the standard protocol for passing the test if you're having issues with exotic wheel and tyre combinations.

I think that photo is kind to the stretch.

The wheels on the missus Golf are 8.5 and have 225s on them, would a 245 not be better suited to a 9.5?

I'm confused alright 9.5 is 241 so 245?is the norm and 255 should look bulgy notvstreched
    Are those bigger rims ?

    Misread that :o

In any event, I'd try for a retest having done nothing. They aren't grotesquely stretched.

If the front wheels and rear speeds are spinning at above 3% difference in RPM most cars go a bit nuts as they think you are spinning out.
