Communal aerial issue

    Hi there,

Trying to set up a TV with a Free-to-air channel box for a couple of days now with no luck whatsoever so thought I'd check if I could get help here!

It all started when we brought the box home, connected to the TV & communal aerial and tried to search for channels - no channels found. Thought it was something to do with the box at first, so tried to manually change the frequency and obviously that didn't help. So I contacted the landlord, explained the problem and asked if that sounds familiar - was told that there must a problem with the cables that come out from some sort of storage closet in the apartment building, to our apartment. The fact that the landlord knew what was the problem, etc. seems that this has happened before...

So we checked that storage closet and there were all these cables there connected to the sockets. 2 cables per apartment, both connected. It looked like one of the cables from our apartment was connected loosely so we fixed it a little and thought that would solve the problem - it didn't. Went back and then noticed that the sockets are all numbered and the cables from our apartment are not connected to the correct socket numbers - our apartment number is 16 but one cable is connected to no 13 and the other to no 2.

Now, my theory is that if we just connect our cables to the right sockets for no 16, which are next to each other, this should fix the issue but my mom thinks we should call somebody to come and have a look at this. I really don't want to spend money on an electrician if the solution is just connecting those cables to the right sockets.

Am hoping somebody else had the same problem and there is an easy way to solve this?

Are the 2 cables connected to a satellite dish and terrestrial aerial or just to a dish?

What type of box are the 2 cables to the apartment connected to, some sort of splitter or multiswitch? Post make/model if visible.

To be honest I don't know if there is a dish installed, I doubt it.

I took some pictures how it all looks like - but I can't post them (new user).

Basically there are no serial numbers or anything where all the cables are connected, it just says 'manufactured in Ireland, Rebkey ltd. Kilcullen Co. Kildare'.

After taking a better look we noticed that some cables are connected to a smaller box, not the main one, and there are 2 other boxes on the wall on the side of where all the cables are. One is a Regal RLS10-2 2-way splitter and the other is a Regal RLS10-3 3-way splitter.

Difficult to advise without seeing the installation.
