Psychometric Testing

I'm due to do a psychometric test in the coming weeks as part of the latest public jobs recruitment process. One of my colleagues was telling me that he took the test last week and that with 30 seconds to go in the Verbal Reasoning questions he literally guessed every answer and immediately pressed 'next' to get to the following question. He reckons he answered at least 10 questions in 30 seconds.

So my question is . . . . Is this a good strategy or are these types of test negatively marked??

I don't seem to be able to find a conclusive answer online.
