Hyundai i40 engine surging in neutral

I noticed this morning that when my car is in neutral, the engine gives a noticable shudder (surge probably isnt the right word). Every two seconds, for about half a second the rev counter drops slightly and the engine makes a noise. It seems fine when its in gear.

Does anyone know if it sounds like something that needs immediate attention? Its booked in for a service in 10 days, but I have two big trips to do before then. According to the service log, its not due to be done again for a month or 4k, so i dont think its that.

Turn the Air con off and see if that stops it.
When the AC compressor cuts in and out it loads the engine.
