Panasonic TV with Panasonic Soundbar being interferred with by Sky box

I have a Panasonic tx-p42gt30b tv and have recently bought a Panasonic soundbar to go with it.

I bought an optical audio cable but the position of the port on the TV is simply ridiculous and it won't fit because the connection of the cable is too long and won't fit into a groove on the TV. As I said, it's ridiculous.

So I'm using HDMI ARC instead and I've been able to get it to work but when I shut down everything and turn it on the following day, it stops working. The lights are on the soundbar and it responds when I adjust the TV volume but there's no sound.

I think the HDMI CEC on the Sky box is taking over or something like that because if I disconnect everything and retry I can eventually get it working.

Does anyone have any ideas before I return the soundbar?

    Thanks
