Could someone please put my mind at rest? I tried ordering a TV from Richersounds today but was out of stock.

So i ordered it from amazon (UK) and now its just occurred to me that the channels might not work on saorview here without a box?

    Sony Bravia KDL49WE663

I tried keying it into the saorview approved tv's page but it doesnt specify saorview approved next to it, but it is in their database so does that meanit is approved and I'm ok or I just screed up?
Cant cancel via amazon as they're saying already prepared for dispatch.

    :o

The similar KDL49WE663BU is approved, I'd be about 99% the KDL49WE663 will work fine, just make sure you choose Ireland on setup, otherwise it might number the Saorview channels starting at channel 800.

Ok great, thanks for that. Having kittens here thinking I had made a costly error there.

    Thanks for that fella :)

Thanks again for this mate. I rang Sony and they said it's the same model and the BU just means "black Unit".
So looks like it's good to go alright, happy days :)

No problem, any chance you will throw up a quick review of how you find it when you get it. Really good price on Amazon at the moment for it, I might change my tv soon enough.

Well, I'm very happy with it. BUT it does have its flaws. The picture quality is excellent, really sharp. It's easy to navigate imo, though I had read other reviews saying the menu is awkward so I suppose it's subjective.
It's neat as a pin and the sound is also very good until you go trying to hit silly levels at which point it starts to sound a bit tinny but unless you're trying to play music really loudly on it or whatever then it's absolutely fine. And that's without a sound bar. You can get a sound bar if you're into the auld deafening audio stuff.
It is set up for Saorview and you can record with the 7 day EPG as usual.

The flaws I mentioned earlier all relate to the "smart TV" aspect of this telly. It has a fairly limited selection of apps and as far as I can tell you can't add any more. I could be wrong there as I'm still getting used to it.
The apps it actually has will do me fine though, Netflix and youtube and youtube kids which is great for our wee lassies and a few other apps I haven't tried yet.
But if you're big into the Smart aspect of Smart TV's then I'd probably steer clear.
On the other hand of you're like me and just want a really nice telly with very good picture quality and the basics of the smart tv stuff and all at a decent price then it's a damn fine TV.
It cost 647 euro on Amazon for the 49 inch.

There are tonnes of reviews of it on Amazon, so if you're serious about getting it then I'd give them a read too. Link here to the reviews:

Cheers, looks good. I'd only really want Netflix and Youtube as must haves, anything else I will connect an Android box for.
