Tests in older cars

    Hey guys,

Have any of you had any issues doing tests in older cars? I failed my test in Cork today - I knew I was after making a bit of a balls of my first roundabout and a later right turn at a junction with traffic light, but I nearly fainted when we got back to the test centre and I saw the amount of faults.

The tester was really nice and friendly until we got outside and he saw my car (01 Corsa). Honestly, the way he inspected it I thought he was trying to give it another NCT. And he spent absolutely ages squinting at my actual NCT Cert which I only got a month ago. He was also extremely bothered by the road noise for some reason.

My main issue: I got 4 Grade 2s and 4 Grade 1s for Vehicle Controls for over accelerating. The car makes a slightly louder noise than most of the newer models when moving off in 1st or Reverse. It happens with my parents. It happened to the salesman when I bought it. It happens with the NCT guys when I take if for NCT. There was no over acceleration. I'm almost 100% certain because when I first started driving I was super conscious of this noise and used to stall continuously, especially during hillstarts, because I thought I was revving too much.

The reason I'm asking though is I saw another cranky test candidate and their parent with a similar aged Corsa doing a thorough inspection of their car for about half an hour after the test ended. They were inspecting their owner's manual and everything.

Has anyone else had testers taking issue with their older cars, in Cork or elsewhere? To be fair I definitely deserved the fail on other issues, but his attitude about the car is annoying me a bit. He also gave me a Grade 2 for indicating around parked cars - is this not required anymore? I was crossing the white line so it seemed like an obvious thing to do but apparently it means I'm all over place with my signalling :)

    Thanks guys.

Whither or not you are going to cross a white line as no bearing whatsoever on your decision to indicate.

Before you move out to pass the parked cars, you indicate your intention to move out. When you have reached the safe passing distance, you cancel the indicator. You should not be indicating as you pass the parked cars as this could be misleading.

    Indicators Indicate your Intention

Do not think he marked you because car was noisy. He would have taken age of car into consideration.
