There's miles of empty coastline from Sandymount to Blackrock which is perfect for expanding the city eastward and still there is plenty left to have a beach of some sort. Why has there never been anything done about it?

    One huge reason.... It floods....

Why would one build there when there is vast land and space elsewhere.

Terrible allowing anything that close to such a nice view anyway.

We are not restricted by lack of land.

Especially if we won't build up....

This is not a political topic , it's better suited to Infrastructure or Building/Planning fora.

It's an environmental protected area. It's also an public amenity .

Just the sane reason why they don't build in Phoenix park Or similar

The city is constricted by the hills to the south and the coastal lowlands and west/ north have already been filled with suburbs. So there is some sense to the suggestion, there's been plenty of land reclamation in the past around the mouth of the Liffey and Ringsend etc. Would require extensive banks to keep the sea out etc. Not likely though due to effect on property values.

There would be a mountain of objections related to obscuring views and lowering prices of properties with said views.

You put up the first 500 million euros for pilling/ concrete foundations plus another half billion for public consultations and you put your name up there for the public witch hunt/backlash to the your plan.. and I'll get the developers in after that to build the semi-d's
