These seem to be highly recommended on the A5OC.com Audi A5 owners club. I'd never heard of the brand before. I'm just wondering if the grá is warranted and/or they're highly rated here.

Vredestien are a Dutch tyre maker who have been around for ages and have a good reputation. They are not quite a premium brand but would be at the top end of the mid range brands. I had Ultrac Sessantas on a BMW 3 Series a few years ago and found them excellent though the walls were a little soft.

The Vorti seems to have superseded the Sessanta and can be reviewed here:
    http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Vredestein/Ultrac-Vorti.htm

Hard enough to find a tyre centre that stocks Vredestien these days, they don't seem to that popular here.

I had them on my last car.
    Put 4 on all around.
While the grip and noise were good, car felt very strange going around a bend on them.
Kinda felt like the car was starting to oversteer or something.
As I said, strange and would put me off buying them again.

Edit: they were the Ultrac Sessanta that I had.

I put a set of these on my car 2 weeks ago , They replaced a set of ContiSportContact 5 and so far they seem great , great grip in the dry , havent really "tested" them in the wet yet .

I had them a few years ago and found them fantastic for grip, low road noise etc but as Bazz said extremely soft walls. Mine all ended getting punctures before they reached 1.6mm.

Great tyre been running them and just recently put cento on my insignia, way better than kumho/continental previous on.

Going to get more of them for OPC when needed.

As said above a mid level tyre that seems to out perform so called premium brands.

3 tyre centre's have given thumbs up to me regarding them when I had them fitted but also saying similar thing that they just don't bother getting them because nobody wants to pay for them.

The trouble apparently is the new distributor in NI ballsed up the distribution of tyres. Was talking to Paul in Victory Tyres (Lelia st, Limerick) who has been selling Vredestein for over 20 years, and swears by them. He said that he could be waiting months for a set of tyres to come in from the NI distributor.

I've went with the Ultrac Vorti from reviews and from what many posters have said, that they are a top notch tyre. I've only been driving on them a short while but the grip and handling are very good, especially when I've pushed them hard into corners. They've a good rep and I hope they serve me well.

Managed to get them the cheapest on tyreleader. Openeo was the most expensive.

    Bazz had the Sessanta model.

I had the Eagle F1's and was told the same about the walls, but I havent noticed the walls being as bad as the f1's. The mother kept asking did I have a puncture when I was driving the F1's :D

Thanks for all the replies. Would these be in a similar bracket to Hankooks? I got two prices for Hankook from local shops and both looking for 150 a corner. Some form of Ventus presumably.

Vredestien would be a similar mid range brand to Hankooks. What size are you look at as there might be savings buying them online if they are not a common size kept in stock?

Just remember that you have to find and pay a place to fit them for you so there might not be a huge savings buying online but at least it gives you an idea of what sort haggling you can do with the tyre shops.

I have the same size on a A4 and didn't like the Hankooks at all, they really suffered from tram lining for some reason. I stuck Kumhos on it this time and they are a brilliant tyre and seem to be wearing extremely well.

It's usually 15 a corner in most places to fit and balance them. If you're in Limerick I'd recommend Paul in Victory Tyres

I didn't think Victory will fit tyres bought from somewhere else.

Its what he recommended me to do last week, that it would be quicker and cheaper for me to buy them online and pay him for fitting (€15 per tyre), maybe that's just for Vredestein as he has problems getting them from the wholesaler. I went with the Vredestein Quatrac 5.

Fit the tyres, put new valves in, cleaned the wheels and put new weights on

I got two new run flats fitted on Monday for the same price but it's good to know there is a few options in the city.

Funny, I went the other way, Vreds to SC5s and the Vreds were a million times better.

Had Vredestein's previously on a car and they were great .. but almost impossible to find here unless you buy online

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 853 ✭✭✭edburg

Not sure I was thrown a kipper but tyreleader gives details of local fitters.

However having gone to the nearest one I got charged 15 for fitting 6 for balance and a final 5 for old tyre disposal.

I was told this was a new thing as last place only charged me 20 ea.

I wouldn't look past Kumho KU39s at their price point. Have had a couple of sets of those now.

I did notice that the new Continental all-weathers will be available in 245/40/R18, previously it was only the Quatracs you could get in that size, CrossClimates weren't available.

I have a set of Vredestein Ultrac Satin in mine and I love them. They are a very good tyre in the wet.

Modern Tyres is where you'll get Vredesteins.
