Paying back Disability Allowance from previous years

I recently realised that my assets have been above the limit of fifty thousand euros for Disability Allowance for two years. I had mistakenly believed that the limit was higher.

My savings have fluctuated below fifty five thousand euros during this time. How should I approach this situation?

I can calculate what is owed on a monthly basis. Are there any penalties or interest payments involved?

There may be exceptions to the limit, e.g. if there is a personal residence to compensation payment involved. If the valuation is based on shares or an indexed fund, a benign view might (no guarantee) be taken to them briefly exceeding the limit.

You could talk to the likes of MABS and then approach the department. I don't think penalties or interest payments involved, unless it went on for a long time.
