Buying a car from Northern Ireland

I'm considering buying a car from NI.
I've looked at a few websites but cant figure out the VRT. How is it calculated? Based off the price you paid or off the value that the revenue puts on the car? Is it about 20%?
Also, would any of the dealers accept trade ins from the republic?

Just type the car info into the VRT calulator and it should give you a good idea on what to pay...

I did this and it gave me price of 4000 on a car worth 4000. So I wasn't sure if it was based on their valuation of the car as opposed to selling price.

Thanks. Tried this one too a few times and it said an email had been sent with the calculations but I never received one.. checked spam and other folders and it's not there.

VRT is based off the Open Market Selling Price (what Revenue think the car is worth here) not what you pay for it in another country.

Also search the motors forum there are lots of threads here about buying a car in the UK

I bought a Toyota a few years ago from a small dealer just outside banbridge, very genuine and I had looked at a lot of cars at the time in the North, he also was exporting a lot of cars to Irish dealers at the time. his cars were ex uk rentals, 50k miles usually, with very good specs, all bigger cars by the way, Audi, BMW, etc

If I was buying again, especially as the exchange rate is so good, i would definitely buy off of him again.

Hi there, please DM me your email address or send a message to support@motorcheck.ie and I'll see what happened to that email. Seems to be working fine this side.
