Power-shower Problem

Trying to understand what's happening here

We have a power shower in the ensuite. It feeds off the cold water tank in the attic and the hot water tank in the hot press. Right next to the hot water tank sits the pump.

It all started with the shower dripping after use. Lately when I turn off the shower the pump turns off too, but comes back on for a second or so intermittently. We end up turning off the pump at socket then to stop this happening. But what's also happening is then sometimes it won't come back on again. And it appears in this case that there is no water left in the pipes between the shower heads and the pump.

Not being a plumber it seems to me that the pump switch works off the pressure change when I turn on or off the shower. And with no water being in there no pressure change is detected?

I imagine the whole problem is caused by a bad on/off valve or so? I just have to get a plumber in?

So I read up on this and I'm still not any wiser. FAQs mention water pressure, air locks, faulty washers for possible reasons.
DIY fixes like resetting the pump, unscrewing the shower head, letting the cold water tap run. Nothing works though. At the moment the thing is dead for days. It has done that before once but somehow and for some reason came back after a few days.

Something has changed cos it worked fine for years.

I think I just need a plumber. How do you find good one?

Could you be build up of scale on the pump inside. How's your water?
Could be build up of scale inside the hot tank. How is the outlet plumbed? Essex flange or surrey flange. Can be air lock on tank if bubbles are getting into outlet.

There is guy on adverts refurbs pumps and installs them. Cant miss him under monsoon pumps. Could try him for advice

First I'd look up the make and model of the pump. They range in price from 150 upwards to 1k. If your pump is an antique or a cheap one then you are better off replacing rather than repairing.

Water is not bad, but of course there is some scale. The installation is 8, 9 years old now.

The whole setup is a positive shower head setup and the pump is a good one. Grundfos STP 3.0B.

Had a quick look online and a new pump, same model is under 300 sterling

True thanks, not too bad but I'd still need a plumber to ensure its the pump and not something else I reckon. And for the installation of course. Any plumber recommendation in Waterford area?
