Electric Micra

Driving through Cork City yesterday, and I'm sure I saw a bright green electric Micra. Really stood out as it was coming towards me, said something about "All New electric Micra" down the side, but didn't see/read/catch anything about a dealer's name.

Anyone know anything about it? Are they being announced at the same time as the new Leaf, and someone's jumped the gun? Will they be based on old Leaf tech, or on the new Leaf stuff?

I'm afraid it's just a Renault Zoe clone, built in France by Renault. The good thing is that it does have the 41kWh pack from the Zoe, so a very decent range (in summer)

So I may have seen it, and I'm not completely mental?!

Like the look of the new Micra if I'm honest.

I prefer the look of the Zoe myself. But a quick google shows the Micra is likely to be better specced. And yes, you probably did see it alright :)

The new Micra looks pretty good. Will make a great EV

I'm not so sure about the new Micra, if they had called it the Nissan Whatever, you'd say the styling is a bit misproportioned, but because it's a Micra, and all Micras from the last 25 years have been horrid - people are pleasantly surprised, but I don't think it will age well.

I'm not comparing it to previous Micras at all.

I happen to think it's a funky looking little car.

The Zoe, Micra and Clio are all built in the same factory (Renault Flins) on the same platform (Nissan V/Alliance B).
An EV Micra has been rumored for two years now. LG is only just catching up to cell demand for the Zoe so now might be the right time.

The Note e-power is also going to debut in europe in the next 6 months. That uses the Leaf motor with a 0.5kWh battery and the 1.2L combustion engine from the Micra as a series hybrid (no-plugin). The scuttelbutt is that the Note e-power needs a bigger battery to handle the kind of sustained speeds common in europe. Some rumors as well of a plugin version of the Note e-power with a larger still battery to soak up incentives in some markets.

Also rumored is an electric compact SUV from Nissan that we will probably see in later 2018/early 2019.
And waiting in the doldrums since 2010 is the Renault Twingo EV... which is now basically in series production for the new Smart EVs (both use the renault powertrain, and the ForFour is a twingo with a smart badge), only a bit of styling changes and a renault badge away from being an official renault model.
