Best mattress recommendations?

    Hi all,

my husband and I are planning to change our current bed and mattress and would like some recommendations. We are not tight to a budget, but we don't want to spend more than 1K more or less.

I would like a divan bed (king size), and about the mattress we don't want memory foam, we like it to be cool, and we both have back problems.
I have been researching a little bit and see that Sealy and Respa seem pretty good. Is that right? Any particular model that you can recommend?

    Thanks!

Basically mattresses consist of two types-of springs-(from any and all manufacturer):

Open coil- cheapest up to nearly 800/900 euro. The difference in price as you go dearer,is the extra layers of fabric laid onto the mattress springs.

and pocket sprung-which are better class than open coil.

These mattresses "the pocket sprung" springs are wrapped in individual fabric and stuck together-there's also hell of a lot more springs, min 1000 springs and up to 4000 per mattress! High end hotels have these, they support your body weight very, very well. There's less of whole mattress sagging when you lie on one side or even sit on edge etc.

So if you want to spend approx 1k then better to go for pocket sprung mattress, but these can go more more than 1k, but for around 1k mark you will get a very good mattress. Your back will thank you for this!

The different brands are all the same-why not stick with Irish companies-Respa, Briody, Odearest, KingKoil,Kaymed, also Natural Sleep beds in Limerick. Whew long list-maybe one or two others I missed.

Sealy afaik are an American company

Thanks shaymo88, but my question is more about experiences rather than explaining the different types of mattresses :)

Just a quick clarification, 1K budget is for divan + mattress.

    Any experience around geltex?

    Thanks!

We have a sealy extra-firm. We were so pleased with it we bought a second one 6 months later.

Ours were bought from Big Mickey in Longford, they occasionally have good deals on Sealy.

I bought this about two months ago and have been very happy. Nice and cool.

Ah just noticed the 1k includes divan. There is a gel 23 one too which cost a bit less. Can't remember the difference in the two. I think the 23 didn't have gel top to bottom

Bruttos, a question about geltex. does it support the body weight? or it gets dented like memory foam?

    Thanks!

The one I linked is the top of the range one. Its rock hard , which I Like, and for the price I cant fault it. Its the heaviest Mattress I've ever tried to get up my stairs:). I've had it 2 years and still OK.

I have never used memory foam so can't compare. It's not dented at all. Only have it two months though. It's firm. I sink an inch or two into it and that's it. The biggest selling point was it's colder than others. I'm happy with that aspect. It's also the first mattress I bought myself having been renting up to recently.

I have a 1500 pocket sprung orthopaedic mattress from Next Home and I'm very happy with it. I've switched from an open coil one - I was suspecting it was causing my backache, as I was sinking into it when lying on my side.

I paid around €800 for a super king size. They also have divan bases to chose from, starting from around €300. It's best to visit their store though, as they would show you different options and currently they have 10% off when you buy 2 furniture items, so I suppose that could fit within your budget.

Here are the links (furniture is not available online in Ireland any more, only in the UK):

I am thinking about this mattress, as it was the one we wanted but they were out of stock, so we decided to buy Morgedal instead.

Do you think they will get it upstairs if I ask for it? I am quite small and my husband is sick, so we won't be able to get it upstairs ourselves :(

I don't know much about Ikeas delivery service, but you certainly wont get it up the stairs yourself. I collected the King size one myself and still remember the struggle I had getting it up to my bedroom.

I'm sure its something that they can tell you in store.

    Hey BigMickey,

Looking for a couple of good quality mattresses. Would really appreciate an update when you are running your offer. Do you have to go to the Ideal Homes Exhibition?

    Thanks.
