Hi, I am done with Sky. What freeview box will give me the Irish channels?

Saorview box or Saorview compatible TV combined with an aerial

I'd say it's a combi satellite/terrestrial box he's thinking of, that will get him UK channels too, although the Sky box won't be totally useless for UK channels & his TV will take care of the Irish part if it's anyway recent (paired with the necessary aerial of course).

What part of the country are you in, OP? Just in case all-terrestrial is an option.

Right, then you'll definitely need satellite for UK channels. What's the make & model of your TV?

If you have a few quid to spend for the UK channels you can use your existing dish with a Humax Freesat box, looking around €250 or less for one...

Just get a combo box. All your channels in one channel list without any switching messing between several boxes. You can connect this to your existing satellite cable that was going into the Sky box. Connect an aerial for the Irish channels.

Thats a channellist updater via a link to a server, not a software solution like on e2. Those boxes have limited epg (now next). Otherwise they are fine for the price but limited in functionality (closed box OS)

If you want record, rewind, series link etc like sky, then I can highly recommend the Humax 1100s. Best thing we ever did was leave Sky and buy that. We only watched the free channels anyway when we thought about it, so the only reason I was keeping Sky was for the record function, €40 a month for that??!

We don't have RTE bit we'll probably eventually buy a new telly that's saorview compatible and stick up an aerial so that will cover that.

But yeah, thumbs up here for the Humax box.

    +1

While you do require a separate setup for Saorview with this box, its a minor inconvenience really. For me, a now/next only EPG and having to retune regularly (as with a combo box) is far more inconvenient.

    Hi All,
im interested in scrapping my sky i want the irish and uk channels i can get for free, and considering the freesat or freeview with Humax there the best boxes reliablity, service, epg, content e.t.c nothing comes close but they have no irish channels
I dont want saoirview as service and epg is crap, i previously knew that u coudnt get rish on either but then i did my research and actaully went on offical freeview site and found this:
    https://www.freeview.co.uk/why-freeview/channels#VQYY6Fe5KJH0ZUyY.97

    * What postcode should we use to accquire the irish and uk channels ?

    * Do you think the delayed new saorview connect service in partnership with, will have saorview and freesat channels included?

Freeview is the UK terrestrial service, with only limited coverage in ROI.

RTE & TG4 have been on Freeview in NI for the last 5 years, though not even full coverage in NI.
