Hadn't considered Lexus, however CVT puts me off, plus infotainment system gets pretty poor reviews. And the clock in the centre of the dash....just doesn't look right to me.

    Why do you dislike CVT?

that's what I focused on also, straight away, such a shame because it's a stunner apart from that.

I've looked at online reviews of it last night and in fairness they are all pretty positive, especially fuel economy, 60+ miles to the gallon is very good indeed.

In terms of cvt, acceleration results in whining constant noise until engine reaches desired speed, most reviews I've seen are not favourable towards cvt, but it's something that I live with if the rest of the experience is all positive, which it could well be.

But there's no getting away from the clock, seems totally out of character with the rest of the interior.

I'm not dismissing the Lexus , it's a car with less co2 emissions than a diesel, 99 g/km, that would qualify for road tax of €180 a year. I'm sure if I test drove one I'd be impressed.

When I checked the VRT on one of the linked adds, it comes in for VRT of 16%, or approx €2200 in the case I looked at.

A friend brought in an IS300H recently and its a lovely car. The infotainment is quite dated though. Reminded me of his 2005 prius system

Could you change it to something fancier? It was a bit painful but I upgraded the standard stereo in my last civic to a pioneer touch screen with nav and android auto. Was excellent.

i know what you mean but for that money infotainment system should be top notch.

i also saw a video online recently, savagegeese is the channel on youtube, very good too, which criticized car manufacurers/regulators for allowing touch screen technology while at the same time saying phone use is dangerous.the video also pointed out that the infotainment system the car comes with is wha you get, period. no update whatsoever will be provided by the manufacturer.

the guy in the video asked the question if you would buy a premium phone knowing the maker of it will never provide you with an update, not once!

this is what car manufacturers are allowed to get away with. for something that might cost 30,000 euro new! incredible really.

the IS 300h 2015 model doesn't have apple car play which is actually a major draw back really.

how pricey was it to upgrade your system in the civic?

Just curious but why is a D write off so bad? Couldn't that just be minor cosmetic damage?

Friends e200 that he bought in January doesn't have android auto or carplay.. Some manufactures are funny like that.. I think the latest bmw i3 will have carplay but no android auto... maybe they have done some analysis and figured only iphone users buy bmws...

Because it makes the car very difficult to sell on and possibly insure over here. As soon as your average Joe runs a history report and sees "write off" they will run away.

It may not be all that bad but if it was minor and cosmetic it wouldnt be a write off. And what others said.

    It is.

Basically it was cheaper for the insurer to sell the car than to fix it with genuine parts. Let's say it was a headlight, bumper and a few bits and pieces.

Prices from Mercedes to fix was 3000. They paid up 14000, and sold the car for 12000. Someone fixed it for 1000 with used/non genuine parts and selling for 2000 profit.
