Title meant too be Joker Origin (stupid predictive text)

    http://amp.timeinc.net/nme/news/film/leonardo-dicaprio-the-joker-martin-scorsese-new-film-2133656?source=dam

A Martin Scorsese Joker Origin movie planned with Leonardo Di Caprio set too star

As much as I want too see LDC play the Joker I just can't see how they can do it without another universe and another Batman unless they do an origin storie of Ledgers Joker with LDC playing the Joker

Be madness too decide too switch Jokers in the DCU. I thought leto was ok (I also loved Eisenberg playing Lex Luthor)

I don't see how to be honest. You have hugely different versions of the character within the same comics universe. If they even tried to address it they could say that Leto's joker was an impersonator trying to adopt the identity or something.

1 of the best things about the Joker is you don't know anything about his background, that's why (in my opinion) Ledger's was so good, you don't know where he came from

That's true of Ledger's joker sure but the origin from The Killing Joke was taken as true for a long time and never diminished the character imo (I'm pretty sure that origin predates the comic also) . I'd be surprised if they didn't borrow from Killing Joke for this too.

The Killing Joke is pretty much cannon at this stage I think but it has never been addressed directly in the movies so could be an option, I just like the bad guys just being bad, not good guys gone bad, 1 of the reasons Darth Vader worked so well in A New Hope was because he was just a bad guy, he deminished as a bad guy the trilogy went on.

Di Caprio would be a great fit for the role though if they went the Killing Joke route. I liked the PTSD Special Ops theory of an origin as well.

The fact that they're already coming up with a new Joker just says to me that they've got absolutely no faith in the current universe.

They have already stated that this new Joker film is separate to the main DCEU films and is the first in a new separate universe with stand alone films.

I remember watching the Dark Knight in the cinema in 2008 and having an initial pang of disappointment that they chose to give the Joker an origin story (when he explained how he got his scars). It surprised me, as Christopher Nolan was usually so sure-footed in his choices. Then later in the movie, he gives an alternative version and I smiled to myself. Nolan got it. That’s the essence of the character. He just is. He’s not the product of an unhappy childhood, an accident in Axis Chemicals or a heist gone wrong. An in-depth examination of why he’s psychotic diminishes the character. He’s anarchic, unpredictable, dangerous and unknowable. If you want to deconstruct a villain with depth and pathos, work away with Harvey Dent. But leave the Joker the f*ck alone.

I think they're doing it just not to restrict themselves. Standalones have bigger scope in the prestige stakes which WB needs more of.

The more the better to be honest. I'd just view it as an Elseworlds kind of deal, they'd have to be on the ball however marketing wise.

Mind you everything I've heard about this film doesn't sound good, and the Scorese/Di Caprio link seems pie in the sky at best. I'd love to see it and Leo could channel Nicholson's Joker like no one else could but yeah, slim chance of happening.

I always thought it would be a great idea to have multiple Jokers and never really knowing which is the real one. Like start a story with Batman chasing down Joker but Joker holding his own until BAM hit by a car or train or something and out steps another Joker. Turns out that Gothem has 3 or 4 Jokers all smart and difficult for Batman to take down. As long as it doesnt turn into the fat one, the skinny one, the nerdy one, etc.....

Back on topic if Scorsese and LDC are making a Joker film Ill defiantly watch it. An origin story will be really tough to do and still add to the character (or maybe better to say not take away from the character), for example Freddy Krugers origin was poorly handled. I hope they dont use the falling into a vat of chemicals angle as its a very 80's/90's way to do it. It would be nice if they brought something new/different to the story.

I wasn't keen on Leto, I think Leo could do a good job even if he does look like Jack Nicholson :p
