I qualified this year as a primary school teacher and i'm going to do subbing for the year starting next week. How do I register or where do I register and what info do I need? I'm also going to be working in a shop over the weekend, how will this work? Someone I was talking to said the secretary in the school did it for them.

Have you a teaching council registration?

This won't be enough. Each company/school/agency will likely want their own vetting. I've been vetted 4 times this year alone, with another to come.

Get it renewed. I just started a new permanent contract coming from another permanent contract and needed a fresh one. You can do it online and it takes about 10 days or so.

You may need a statutory declaration too. The form is online and is easy to fill out. Have you a current registration with the teaching council?

Registration to teaching council, statutory declaration and Garda vetting are standard. You need to apply for these, the school will not do it on your behalf. Teaching council is renewed annually by all teachers and, unless you have a rolling contract in one school, Garda vetting and statutory declaration would need to be renewed annually also. When you are looking for subbing, it's a good idea to come to the school armed with these documents and a cv.

As far as working the weekend in a shop, I think this would just affect your tax credits. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Best of luck with your subbing!
Edit: as previous poster mentioned, a school that provides you with a contract may look for a new Garda vetting and stat Dec form to be filled out so you could end up doing these multiple times in a year.
