Uninstalling apps

I recently bought a new Android phone, v6.0. I'm very happy with it sofar (it's a big step up from my 4 years old Galaxy).

The only issue I suppose is I'd like to uninstall apps I don't need - such as Facebook, Google Movies, Google Music etc. They are not allowing this though, offering instead to replace it with the factory version. Others have the option to disable them but they are still using up space.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get rid of these apps altogether and if so how?
