What do the members of Boards Farming&Forestry forum think of the fact that it is planned to make it mandatory to possess a Social Services Card to receive SFP, Glas etc. etc.

If your herd number is not sufficient, coupled with your bank details and pps number, just what do you need to prove to the Dept. Ag. who you are?

If your passport is no longer proof of your identity to the State (the same State who issued the passport) are you no longer a citizen if you don't have this card?

Furthermore, can the State legitimately demand you get a card in order to receive European funding, considering said funding is not coming from State coffers?

Sounds like something that was made up by the civil rights brigade.
I don't know any farmer calling to the local department office to collect the payments in person.

I've received payments having never met a department of agriculture official in person with regard to my farming activities and nowadays you submit an application online and receive payment electronically so there's even less dealings.

As for the card in general what information is kept on the card that the state agencies can access that they wouldn't have access to anyway.

I think we are all going to get a national ID card whether we like it or not.

I've a dormant credit union ac, recently tried to re-open it, had a driver's licence on me, no go. Went back to the car and got 2 or 3 bills from local businesses with my name and address on them. Went back in, still no go, they wanted a bank statement:rolleyes: or an esb bill with my name and address on it as proof of identity. I told them I get the esb bill and the phone bill on-line.

If a national ID card would cut out all this BS I'd be in favour of it anyway.
