Bluetooth problem on 2011 VW Polo?

We have a VW Polo 2011 in the family, it has the phone button on the steering wheel and the Bluetooth option (on or off) comes up on the radio but it just won't find any phone. When you set a phone up to pair and select Bluetooth on on the radio nothing happens.
    Any suggestions..?
Is it possible we have he hardware but not actually the feature?

Can you find the car Bluetooth with the phone?

    No, nothing shows up.

Is it definitely the original stereo? All cars with the multi function wheel will have the phone button but in cars without Bluetooth all it would do is mute the stereo.

It seems to be the original stereo, when you press 'menu/setup' you get the option for Bluetooth on or off but nothing happens when you select 'on', and then search from the phone, nothing shows up.
Like the one in this video (although the radio is not exactly the same)

The controls on the steering wheel look exactly like this one...

When you press the phone symbol in the middle nothing happens but the volume controls work, if you press the microphone button on the bottom it mutes the radio...

I doubt you have Bluetooth, very frustrating I've the same setup in my Octavia, all the buttons but no Bluetooth module.

That's what I'm thinking, is there any way to be sure..?
What does the Bluetooth module look like and is it possible to add one..?

If your phone can't see the radio Bluetooth it isn't there. The module lives under the driver's seat, they turn up on eBay from time to time but are expensive. You could be lucky and come across one in a breakers but they know how to charge for them too.
