April/ May weather dependant. Have reseeded every month from April on and generally once they can be done so they can be sprayed and grazed they'll do fine. For that reason I think spring/ summer is better than late autumn

Unless it is sprayed off it is getting too late.

The biggest problem with Autumn reseeding is making sure to have it grazed enough before growth stops and conditions get too wet with the oncoming winter. Having it grazed twice or more before winter is ideal to let the grass tiller and thicken out.

The only other issue with reseeding is drought or frost harming the seedling
before its rooted and developed properly.

Depends on the weather really and maybe part of the country.

I have reseeded in the first week of October and it was fine.

Problem with that is demand . I am reseeding 1/3 of the ground i farm. I am only farming 25 acres at the moment .

I have a lot of 2 cuts of sillage so was thinking of only selling one cut in one of the feilds . So it Probably be end of june early July that i have the aftergrass . Would reseeding in july be stupid. I know your more tham likely to get a no rain but with this new climates that can easly happen in may also

Ploughed a field today. Its 2 weeks sprayed. Only 5 acres so will disk and level it tomorrow evening and seed it Saturday.

Will run sheep on it when it's established.
    Well, that's the plan anyway.....

what type of reseeding do you want to do and how is the land?

we under sow for reseeding as find it the best solution for here. grow fodder beet for the winter so will follow that with reseeding in apr/may. plough, power harrow then spread barley with fert spreader, run of grass harrow then spread the grass seed and roll. spray for weeds then cut for arable silage in july. ready for grazing in aug.

the arable silage is ideal for weanling/yearnings as i dont need to give them expensive ration as well

Would the barley be gone after the cut or would there be a trace left?

It would be gone, you cut at the milky ripe stage so any fallen seeds will hardly germinate.

Depends on what part of the country you're in also, too much risk of a drought from mid June onwards here to bother risking it, we've had good results from reseeds in sept/Oct around here, moving back to April from now on because there is a high demand for autumn grass with the milk cows.

To answer a few questions there.

I am i north cork . Very dry land on limestone. But grass does not burn in dry period.

I need to plough it as i have big drains from putting slurry out in jan one year (long story)

Would reseeding in july be foolish ?

Its September now so you have a few months to figure it it out.

if it needs ploughing then next spring would be the best time. you could use it to out winter then plough it up in the spring. graze it down as much as you can make sure to give a good killing off before you do.

I can't see there being a problem with frost this autumn at this juncture.
More like problems with rain if anything.

I sowed last Friday and then needed a half bag to finish on Saturday morning.

But you could see some shooting up yesterday on your hands and knees.

No I meant if it goes wrong, there would be no way of hiding it :D

It's thier rejuvenation mix and the local REP never sold any of the seed around my area or seen it sown either. He's a keen interest in the results as my method would suit the local horsey men that want as little disturbance as possible on the land.

    Sorry for hijacking thread.
Somebody started a thread a while back about reseeding without chemicals. Can somebody point me in the direction of it?
I have a long strip of land along a river and open drains running into it so I'm Hoping to get pointers on how to do it without chemicals

Sowed 5 acres today, here in Cavan. Probably the last chance to get it in.
