    Hey,

Thinking of buying a 2014/15 Mazda 3, looking at diesel engine. Does anyone on this forum currently drive one, if so, I would appreciate your views? Also, would you consider a petrol or diesel engine? I do about 12 to 15k miles per year. I'm currently driving a VW Golf TDI but fancy a change.

    Cheers

While both the petrol and diesel SkyActiv engines unique high compression, the petrol engine would be less risky than the diesel as Mazda's reputation for producing reliable diesel engines is far from great.

I drove a 152 mazda 3 2.2ltr diesel before upgrading to a 172 mazda 3 2.2ltr saloon. Great car and never had an issue with it. 2.2ltr engine is the same one used in the mazda 6 so good power and handling from this engine. Father drives the 1.5ltr diesel model - better on fuel and still decent power from it but I still opted to keep the 2.2 when upgrading.

Had a 142 mazda 3 from new with the 2.2 skyactiv diesel and had trouble with it from the off with excessive diesel oil dilution despite the majority of my driving being motorway. Got rid of it earlier than I planned to in the end as multiple software and other fixes didn't work. I'd be wary of diesel Mazda's as a result

What is the car like on fuel consumption? More interested in the 2.2 myself.

I have one of these myself. Most fuel efficient car i've ever had (although only petrol before). Dont know exact MPG but it costs about €45-€50 to fill the tank and I get a minimum of 770km out of that, depending on the type of driving I'm doing.

I am also interested in buying a Mazda 3 (2013 petrol). OP ..hope you don't mind me asking here. It would not make sense to start a similar thread.
I am curious about the driving comfort. I have read several reviews where this seems to fall short. How would it fare on a long journey ?

Mine is a 151 model and I can't fault it. I have taken it on numerous long journeys around Ireland and its a pleasure as both driver and passenger.

    Thanks. That's reassuring.

Driving a 2.0 litre Petrol Auto hatchback.
I haven't had it too long but it's a nice car to drive. Very responsive on the road. Lots of extras in my model and a nice interior. I don't do much mileage so this was my choice in going petrol. I might only do about 10k kilmoetres a year. One of the complaints I'd seen mentioned on the car was its road noise but coming from the car I had it's so much quieter so it will all depend on what you're currently driving.

I haven't filled up the tank too much yet to know how I'm doing mpg but shorter trips around town seem to use up a fair bit more fuel compared to being on open roads.

I think the 2013 model is based on the older chassis. It was changed for the 2014 model, the engines might be the same though.

How is the car now a couple of months on? Still happy with it?
