As the title says thinking of buying one have to go look at it tomorrow evening , but I'm completely out of my dept, what should I ask the seller ?? There is 145km on the clock 1.6 petrol if that helps. Seller has told me that the water pump and timing belt have not being changed. But that the car is perfect. Any advice please and thanks

The 1.6 FSi is probably the best petrol engine in those Passats in that it doesn't give much trouble but it's not very powerful and not particularly economical.

Those Passats are aging quite badly too, they are prone to expensive-ish unpleasant failures. Steering column locks, rear callipers, keys, key readers... fond of suspension components too.

Electronic parking brakes give trouble in that vintage Passat too. Two main causes, either a sticking caliper or the button is faulty. At the end of the day it's a 10 year old car so how reliable it will be depends on how it was cared for.

BTW I think the 1.6 FSi engine has a timing chain rather than belt.

Yep, there's only one 1.6 engine in them.
Try and get a comfortline at a minimum, makes a bit difference to how it feels.
