Using Sky box to get BT sports but keeping free to air satellite

    Hi

I have a combo box to receive saorview and satellite free to air.

I am thinking of changing my fixed broadband to eir so I can get the BT channels. I am not gone on the casting option as it is not in hd plus you don't have record/timeshift features.

I was thinking of getting a Sky box and using it in conjunction with my combo box.

Is it possible to spit the satellite feed and put a feed each into the combo box and the Sky box.

I could then switch the hdmi input to the Sky box when I wanted to watch BT sports.

    Is this possible?

As a rule you cannot easily split satellite signals. Each tuner needs a direct feed from the dish. There is a device known as a priority switch.

    Cheers that might be perfect.
Could I get it in any electrical store.

I guess I could order from that site.

You could use a quad LNB on the dish to provide up to 4 cables from the dish but I don't think you will be able to use the record functions of the Sky box without a Sky Plus subscription.

You will not be able to use time shift or record on a SKy+HD box without a subscription to Sky.

You would be better served with a quad LNB rather than a priority switch, if you can easily run the extra cables.

I don't have a Sky sub but do have an old Sky box for the sports. Unable to record on it as mentioned.

I use Google Chromecast mostly and the quality is very good (720p at least). In fact, eir Sport1 on the sky box is in SD so you actually get a better picture on the app/using Chromecast.

I bought a priority switch like the above and used it to split one of the existing 2 cables to feed into a Sky Multiroom box, which I in turn paired my old Sky card to (which BT sports is on), and my Freesat box
The 2nd cable then feeds directly to the other input on the Freesat box.

    Works fine for me :)

Regards this priority switch - what else will I need to connect the splitter back to the set top box.
Is it 3 twist on connectors and 2 pieces of coaxial cable?
