    Hi all,

I flushed my 2004 avensis rad this morning as I only got the car and I wanted to make sure it had the proper coolant and antifreeze before the really cold weather sets in.

Anyway, I emptied the rad and filled it back up with water just to help clean the system out. I was going to leave the water in it until tomorrow and then put the new coolant in.

The only problem is now the cars fan is on constantly when driving. The water bottle so there is plenty of liquid to cool the engine. Surely it couldnt be overheating from a simple flush?

Assuming it's petrol... Did you fill the rad before filling the bottle?

As seen in this pic: rad cap beside the bottle (Corolla but same difference)

    Could be an air lock.

    Fancy pigeon,

I actually only filled the bottle but I filled it twice and water is still in the botlle indicating that's there's enough water in it. I'll have another look at it though, was in a hurry this morning so maybe I made a mistake somewhere.

That's just an overflow for the rad, not the capacity of the rad itself.

Fill the rad first, then the bottle.

Did you bleed the system of air?

I once again flushed the whole system out and there was plenty of water in it.

I filled it up with water once more and took it for a long drive. It's running perfectly now and the system is fully cleaned out. I topped it up with the coolant and no problems with it now. I reckon it was probably air locked this morning.
