Is the PIN number for login related in any way to a particular car?

I thought I remember once hearing it was part of the VIN chassis number or something?

I want to renew car tax and never got an email or letter out.

From what I remember, if you log in to motortax online, there is a retrieve pin option.

Yes just click retrieve pin and they'll email you a pin

In the case of the first taxing of a brand new or imported vehicle, the PIN is the last six characters of your vehicle's chassis number

Ah yes, that's what I remember reading once.

I take it after you've taxed it the first time, you then get a different PIN?

Once a VRC has been issued the PIN will be the last 6 digits of the serial number on the front of the book.

Top right corner of the page with the harp on it a number beginning C1----.

Yep an old reminder email will do too if you haven't changed address in the meantime or got a duplicate cert

If you want a postal notification make sure to untick the box for email notification. It's easy to overlook it.

Just to clarify. It's just under where you enter your email address.
