Solar heated water with backup not working

    Hi,

We're tenants living in our place since February. We've never had a problem with water being cold up until 2 days ago. If anything, the water was too hot in the shower so we'd to reduce the flow it until the temp was ok but pressure wasn't great. A good problem to have I know.

Anyway, 2 days ago there was only luke warm water and today it was cold.

We were told when we moved in that there was a backup which would heat the water when there wasn't enough solar energy.

    The set up is:
    • Solar panels/tubes on roof
    • A tempest solar cylinder
    • Sorel TDC 3 control panel
    • Baxi gas boiler

The gas boiler downstairs has been off for the summer as we haven't needed the central heating. Could this be the backup and if so, do we need to have it on a timer to heat the water overnight?

    Thanks very much
