Pension(s) Question

I have worked for various companies, both here and in the UK.
Where is the best place to find out what pension investments I may have?
I am aware of everything this century, but have no idea about 7 years in the UK, and anything here before that.
Just wondering where to start - with the companies themselves, or not?
    Thanks.

Write to them. Tell them your current address (they might not have it) and d.o.b. and PPSN (or UK equivalent).

Ask your former employers. Write to the HR department giving your dates of employment, employee no. and any other info. that may be relevant. Maybe scan the photo page of your passport and/or driving licence to assure them that you are not an imposter trying to fraudulently claim the money.
