Threw out a bad apple on the lawn for the birds to munch on yesterday morning and when I passed by later that evening it was covered in lots of black worm like creatures. Apple was in the vicinity of the septic tank in case that adds a clue.

Anyone any idea what they are?

    I dare say...... leeches?
we have loads of them in our garden and when they're not swollen and fat, this is what they look like.

They don't seem to be segmented like leeches. Possibly a flats worm like Microplana terrestris,
