Volkswagen 1.4TSI noisy startup?

Hello everyone i have VW jetta mk5 2008 1.4tsi 122bhp but the engine sometimes rattles loudly on startup it hasn't worsened and it only does it now and again sometimes it does not rattle on startup but the odd time it does and i was wondering is it a possible timing chain problem or camshaft positioner problem i am the 2nd owner of the car and it currently has 165000kms on it. The previous owner done the timing chain at 155000kms. There is a lot of talk about this on the net lately and there are some videos too on YouTube. A few guys state that it is a problem with the mk5 jetta up to 2010 when VW apparently fixed this problem and others say that it exists in all TSI engines. One or two guys stated that people should ignore this noise and carry on using they're cars as some people sent theyre cars to VW dealers with this noise thinking it was a chain problem but VW sent it back to them saying it wasn't and there is nothing wrong with the car. Others also stated they replaced the camshaft sensor on the engine later to find out that the engine still rattles on startup. here is a video describing what mine sounds like.

Are you 100% sure that the timing chain was actually changed?

That was never changed or cheap parts were used.

Yeah, I'd wonder if it was changed were spurious parts used?

If not I'd double check was the cam variator changed, people often try to get away with reusing the old one due to the cost of a new one.

Was a genuine oil filter used at the last service? Some of the aftermarket oil filters there is no pressure valve within the filter to keep the oil pressure up which in turn slackens the timing chain causing it to rattle.

Also the timing chains on the tsi engines are known to stretch overtime.

Hey everyone i got the car plugged in yesterday and i got the all clear if it was a camshaft sensor since it is electronic it would come up on the system not too ure if timing chain would come up on the system but the mechanic i spoke with said there is nothing to worry about and also the car is driving 100% there is no los of power or acceleration at all.

Yeah i did hear that they are known to stretch over time that is true but also i heard using good oils such as that recommended by VW aka castrol 504 00 grade oil can lenghten the lifespan plus i have a friend with a 75bhp 1.4golf and she only replaced the chain once and the car has 365000kms on it which is a lot in comparison to my 165000kms

It was changed at registered VW dealer the same dealer the car was bought off OLeary in Co Wexford.

Unlikely they used spurious parts then.

You get 2 years warranty with work done through a VW dealer though so maybe get in touch if you are within that time frame.

The 1.4 75 bhp golf doesn't have a chain. Regular oil changes using good quality oil is very important but I wouldn't be happy with that racket there's definitely something wrong. My TSI engine is so quiet sometimes I think it has stalled. There's a tiny rattle on the first start of the day but it only lasts a few seconds and it's from the hydraulic tappets, any other starts in the day and it's completely silent.

Actually mine only does that rattle on start too but it might do it if the car goes cold and i start it later in the day.
