Journey plan advice please - Dublin to Louth

    I have to make a return trip from South Dublin to Louth this weekend, 110km each way, in my 141 Leaf. It'll have about 85% charge when leaving and I'd like about 30% charge when I get back, I'll be driving via the M50 and M1, cruise control set to no more than 110kph. I'm estimating range at that speed to be about 100km, so mapping via https://www.egomap.eu tells me I'll have to stop to rapid charge in Applegreen Lusk and Castlebellingham each way, 4 short stops in total. I'm not keen on getting too close to zero range as I'll have small children with me.

    I appear to have a fallback of Lidl in Drogheda and Great Gas in Donabate if the Applegreen chargers are faulty or very busy.

    Does this seem reasonable?

    If there is no strong headwind you should be able to make to Castlebellingham on the way in. Just keep down to 100 km/h if necessary. The long uphill section from south of Drogheda will affect your range meter quite a lot but just ignore it on the day as it's all downhill from there.

    110km/h on cruise control is pushing it to get 100km from 85% on a motorway. Doable but I would start that journey at 100-105 and judge after a few km if I could increase speed. I would think that, with 85% you will be arriving at the charger after 100km with "---" showing.

    Always better to arrive with 5% instead of -5% lol so I would always start slower and work up the speed, rather than start fast and try save energy later. I (and I have done 50k EV km in the last 12 months) would always use a co-efficient of about 1.02-1.03 km per each percentage at this time of year at 105km/h indicated on the motorway. Can do 1.06-1.08km per percent on the motorway in the summer, dropping to 1.01 in the depths of winter, 0.95-1 with the heating on full blast.


    EDIT: Never mind. I just saw you wanted to do 100km each way and stop each way en route. You'll have no problem so :)

    Thanks for that, we live up a steep hill so use quite a bit getting up but see the regen effect on the way back down. However, if we leave home with 100% it can be several km before it drops to 99%, this has a noticeable in that you need to use the brake a lot more, even with B mode.

    Very useful info, thanks for that, those figures are good to have and similar to what I've experienced in the last few months.
