Does anybody know the correct name for the sensor that detects what gear you are in and tells you when to shift.

Ive been googling the likes of shift indicator sensor or Gear position sensor etc but most results come up with stuff related to auto transmissions.

    My issue is I have a 2011 Hyundai i30 Diesel 1.6 (6spd Manual)
and that part is leaking transmission fluid. I need to find a new one.
I can bring it to the dealer and point at the part but theres no dealer that I know of within 30K of me. If I knew the name I could order one and just collect it. save one trip to the dealer.

Gear shift indicator or manual transaxle shift indicator

If you have problems finding a correct part: There is typically no such thing as gear sensor in cars. The selected gear in manual transmissions is typically calculated using ABS/speed sensors and engine rpm. The change light on the other hand is based on somewhat complex calculations by the engine management ECU.

Found the part and problem sorted.
Dealer service and parts depot said that the issue I had is not uncommon. i.e the part is known to leak oil.

This switch does link in with the gear shift indicator lamps on the dash.
There is a separate switch for the back up lamp.

The numbering on the packaging I received has 3 X letter Fs at the end.
