    Hi,

Walked into Halfords today with the intention of buying some motor oil for my 09 Auris - got very confused with all the options/types 5w40 etc. and left!

What type of motor oil should I be putting into my car?

Far as I know a 0w20 or 30 fully synthetic is what it takes.

Yep 0W-20 or 0W-30 Full Synthetic according to a few of the oil vendor web sites.

I use 5W30 Castrol Magnatec (stop/start) full synthetic oil in my wifes 2010 Auris. I got it on sale in Asda for £22 (about €26 at the time) which was a helluva lot cheaper than the €49 my local auto factors wanted for the same thing.

You could use 5w30 of course and it's very unlikely to do any damage, but it would have an impact on fuel consumption, on the other hand would be less likely to be burnt if the engine has a bit of mileage on it.
