ID mobile data usage accuracy?

    Hi

I use ID mobile broadband sim in a dongle. I have 2 of them, one for 60GB and one for 40GB, keep an eye on the data and switch over when necessary. This month I used 40GB by the 10th and switched to the other one. Yesterday - 27th- I checked and there is only 3.5GB left. I use the data to work from home, and have been using probably more than normal this month as have been doing extra hours, plus the kids are off and yes there is a lot of data being used but this seemed like quite a lot.

So I went into the My activity section of the ID site and copied all the usage for the 40GB one for this month, from 1st - 10th August, pasted it into Excel, converted everything to MB and added it all up. I only get approx 30GB. Now for speed I only converted by calculating/dividing by 1000, not 1024, but still, I can't see that this would get me 10GB out?

When I went into the 60GB one, where it says we are on 56GB used, the activity only started on the 14th, it is missing from 10-14th, I think it gives 100 activity sessions and there was a lot of hassle with masts in the last couple of weeks, so a lot of reboots while we figured out what was going on. So I am missing 4 days but still, when I calculated this one I only get that we used about 28GB. I really can't believe that in that missing 4 days we used another 28GB.

So, am I missing something? How can the activity tracker be so far off? What is the point in it if it is? Or is it all a big scam? Going to contact ID later on but just wanted to make sure I was on the ball. If their overall tracking is accurate, that we used 40 in 10 days, then that's 4 a day and then yes it would make sense that we used 56 in the next 17 days, fine, and I know there is a lot more being used at the moment than normal, but the numbers on the activity tracker just don't add up.

    Thanks

    Two things:

    1. Ensure you count Upload AND Download. You also need to know if they byte round (1-7 bits are charged as 1Byte).

    2. Live traffic systems are independent from billing systems by design. Used data may appear in the system after a delay.

Thanks ED_E - sorry for not thanking you earlier - between rationing data and ridiculously patchy connections I've been offline most of the week except for work. Back to the good old modem days of images disabled. Anyway I spoke to ID and they were useless, kept saying the activity log is accurate even though the numbers clearly didn't add up.

Your points: 1 - their activity log includes upload and download figures, if you hover over a number the span title pops up showing the breakdown. 2. I have 2 sim cards - one of them hadn't been used since 2 weeks before and the numbers were still about 10GB out.

This month I decided to keep an eye on things while the numbers were still small. Last night I was getting 6 odd GB used and the activity barely added up to 1 - got on to ID on FB with screenshots and they said to check it out in the morning when the log had caught up. So am talking to someone on there now. Hopefully will get to the bottom of this

I am getting increasingly concerned that I will end up, towards the end of the month, rationing unnecessarily to avoid paying extra for data that should still be well within my limit. Plus the fact that the connection has been ridiculously patchy this last 2 weeks - I'm not sure we could have used 6GB in 2 days even if we wanted to.

ETA - they say their usage adds up to the big number, and that there is something wrong with the activity log in my dashboard. ah well.
