Parcel Boxes for outside the house - would this work in Ireland?

I'm sick of missing parcels so considering getting a parcel box like this for outside. I buy lots from amazon and lately everything from there requires a signature for delivery which means it's no longer practical for me to buy there.

On boxes sold in the UK I notice they say that inside the door they all have a barcode that couriers and postal delivery services can scan and use as proof of delivery instead of a signature.

Does anyone know if delivery services in Ireland would accept that instead of a sig?

Does anyone have a parcel box they find works well? Is it used by delivery people or do they tend to not see it/ notice it?

An Post have their own version, called DeliveryBox

    http://www.anpost.ie/AnPost/MainContent/Personal+Customers/Managing+Mail/Parcel+delivery+services/DeliveryBox.htm

Unfortunately it can only be used for deliveries through An Post, not by courier

It's also very small from what I've seen, there's no way the average ridiculously oversized amazon box would fit in it I don't think.

It does use barcode as proof of delivery though! I hadnt realised that, so thanks for the link. I wonder if they'd accept a barcode of a non An Post box though.

An Post now deliver in the evenings and on Saturdays.

Evening attempt is automatic if you are not there in the morning.

Its solving a lot of non delivery issues.

Really? Do you have any link?
I definitely haven't noticed this where I am, it'd be great, I wonder why they even bother coming in the morning at this point.

    Not entirely correct.

Only on certain contract customer parcels

    It's costing me a fortune.

I would love a parcel box but the An Post one is tiny, it would need to be at least twice the size to be useful.

Yeah unfortunately it's not practical for everyone.

Surely someone must have one of these boxes?? 50% of the country must need one.

I suppose the best person to ask if they've become more popular would be the postman but I'm not going to ever see him by the looks of things. :D

I work for a delivery company. I've seen people leaving plastic containers outside the door or they would leave a nor telling you its at the side of the house/wherever. Handy for us as it saves a return trip because it's company policy to at least attempt delivery even if contact can't be made with customer.

Could buy a storage container in Aldi, delivery company can take a pic of package as proof of delivery

I have the An Post one, love it, and it's not too tiny. I'll go take a pic in a minute if you want, I'd say it would fit a shoe box ? It's pretty well sealed, and has saved me many trips down to the village.

Hope I manage pics insertion. Box is 790g, hope that'll help for scale, it's pretty big imo. !

Have to attach in separate post.

That's too small though - needs to be the size of the biggest parcel motel locker imo.

Too small for the wider, square boxes alright. The UK ones look great, pity if it has to be signed for the box would be of no use.

Its basically the exact size needed for said Amazon box. There's a demo one hanging at the collections counter in my local DSU and I bought one on checking that it'd take the normal "medium" Amazon box

That was so good of you to take those pics, thank you. It was helpful.

Unfortunately it's comfirmed it would definitely be a bit small for my needs

Not for the boxes I often get, I've measured them. I definitely need a bigger one, as much as I'd love to avail of the An Post box. I can't understand why they don't make a larger one.

With no many people shopping online and working there has to be a better solution than Parcel Motel.

The thing is those large boxes from the UK have a serial number inside that they say can be scanned or recorded instead of signature for proof of delivery. I just don't know if An Post and couriers here would be content with that.

I think the box you're talking about is the E3 size. That would do. Theres one that a small bit bigger that wouldnt fit though IIRC. Thats the issue.
I can't understand why they don't make a larger one.

Maybe its worth a number of us all submitting the same suggestion.

I wonder, the thing is that it had to be blindingly obvious when they were making them that a bigger one would be necessary, the majority of conversation around them online to date is about them being small. Even if they did provide a big one we'd be waiting a year no doubt and couriers couldn't use it.
I just don't feel like the solution will come from them. I'm surprised there's no posts about people having got them from another source though. I am starting to think one of us will have to start a box company! Who will come with me to Dragons Den? :)

If its not from AP, they probably wont use it. And like it or loathe it, they delivery the majority of packages.

It doesn't make financial sense for them not to use a good box though. It's going to cost them to be making 3 return visits with every package where someone is not in during the day for example.
I find an awful lot of shops now use courier. The only packages I get from An Post are from amazon and iherb.

We are on the lookout for a guard dog and the only thing stopping us right now is the fact delivery dudes and postie won't really be able to access the property anymore. Seriously looking at one of these iBins myself: http://www.theibin.com/

    Anyone heard of them?
