Hi all. My 4 year old son is just diagnosed with autism. I was advised to look for private therapy for him and not expect to much help from the public health care :-( unfortunately I am not currently able to afford weekly private therapy.
we live in Co. Mayo, so just wondering if the level of help you receive is the same in all counties? I would be open to move if it means better help for him going forward.
    Any advice much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance.

There is a facebook page called Irish Autism Mammys. Lots of other Mums who have children on the Spectrum.

You will get lots of advice and support there.

Have you applied for DCA for him? It is a monthly payment for children with disabilities. This would help pay for private therapy for him.

Great Books are by Tony Attwood.

Irish Autism Action is now rebranded as Autism Ireland.

Irish Autism Action are ableist s**tbags, I had a meeting with them and at the start of the meeting told the man we were having the meeting with 'don't tell me that my parents are trying their best, I'm sick of hearing it' (my parents were abusive towards me) and at the end of the meeting (which had been going well until that point) he said 'I know you told me not to say it but your parents really are trying their best'

Here's the thing IAA, you are the parents of autistic children, you are not autistic yourself, you had no business saying that to me.

They're not an organisation for autistic people, they are a parental support organisation, they couldn't give a s**t about autistic people.

They also had a charity day at Tayto Park, but in their infinite wisdom decided that the rollercoaster and similar rides would be too scary for autistic children, which resulted in my friend's child having a meltdown on the day because the rollercoaster wasn't open

They're one of the organisations which had the head being paid a salary in the hundreds of thousands per year
