Hi not sure if I'm posting this in the the right thread, so apologies

I see that Aldi are bringing in a 49in smart tv in the next couple of weeks and a few accessories. One of them is a 4g indoor aerial.

I have a freeview box that works fine but unfortunately the dish is broken. I can't get the dish down or replaced.

Any chance the 4g aerial would pick up the UK channels?

if you are near the border perhaps, otherwise you need an installer

Do you mean an indoor TV aerial (with 4G filter)? Not a chance, unless you live somewhere like Belfast.

Also worth mentioning, Freeview is actually a brand name for the UK terrestrial TV service, nothing to do with satellite dishes, so it's not actually a Freeview box you have.

Hi Thurston, we got a few boxs and dishes from Aldi/Lidl a few years ago. they pick up all the UK channels - the freeview ones eg UTV Channel 4 BBC

Sorry i thought they would be called freeview boxes...#confused

Freeview is the name for the bundle of free UK channels you can pick up using an aerial from transmitters in NI or Wales. You twice mentioned 'dishes' so you are not getting Freeview, a satellite dish picks up Freesat which is available from pretty much anywhere. An aerial will only pick up Freeview if you are close to the border or at certain favourable locations in the south using a large rooftop aerial.

Thanks coylemj, so I can take it that the aerial will not replace the broken dish, ah well I'll have to live with Saorview for now..

why not put up a dish lower down, after all it does not have to be in an inaccessible place, then you will have a whole new viewing world at your fingertips, all for zilch
