Dyson V6 operating question

I've just bought a Dyson V6 Fluffy and got a 'Spring Kit' free, which has a couple of extra attachments. There isn't much information in the manual on what each is for and I just wondered.
Which head do most people use for general floors? I have marble tiles, wooden floors with a few mats. I don't envisage changing the head for carpet/mat and I will probably just leave one on. There seems to be two to choose from. One with brush and one with felt roller.
Secondly I believe you can alter the power. Should you not have it at max all the time or is that not necessary for hard floors?
Any advice appreciated as I'm a bit lost.
